rive ni to mantili (throw her the kerchief) , “Throw her the kerchief”, in the Tsakonic dialect of Propontida’s villages. The throwing of the kerchief meant an invitation to dance, which was equivalent with an expression of particular interest –if the girl wasn’t a relative– and almost with a marriage proposal.
